Wash takes a critical look at how we as designers approach architecture especially in the public realm. This project specifically takes a deep examination of OMA's Seattle Library and the social issues that surround a public building such as this. Is it a top down architect as 'hand of god' approach where the users are the last part of the equation? Seattle has a large homeless population who uses the library as a resource not necessarily as it was intended - can we as designers plan for unintended use? Does architecture and its permitted programs project societal expectations on users? And what can we do as designers to help those who are in need?
