SHIH YU LANG YMCA
A YMCA by nature is a hybrid building, consisting of a varied and sometimes unexpected assortment of program in order to provide a community center of a civic scale to the area. The design began In the exploration of energy producing skin that employs a cable and vertical turbine system . Swaths of large glazing meet fixed units at the occupant level and operational turbines above. The result is a diaphanous and flowing skin that reacts with environmental conditions.
Working with the needs of a YMCA, the enclosure varies based on programmatic requirements and activity levels on each floor. Enclosure decreases on each level in accord with the increasing physical activities of the program. The skin system allows for the opportunity to use natural ventilation in the more athletically active areas.
